Hi there,

Can confirm this does work for Firefox as well. After cutting and pasting filter link in the main box there is a separate box on the right hand side of the filter preferences area in which you again have to "Add Filter". Once I did this, videos will now play on CNN in Firefox with ABP enabled.......

Thanks to mapx, you're a genius!!

Kindest regards......

mapx's CNN filter (as installed by bullyg) failed to work for me on Firefox ESR 31.6.0.

-try first disabling all other addons, see if works
-still not working:
submit an issue report, then post here the report link

Thanks for the suggestions, mapx, and thanks for your original work.

Before posting here, I had observed the CNN problem. As a first step, I restored Firefox ESR 31.6.0 to its default configuration, meaning that all user add-ons were deinstalled entirely, not just disabled. Then CNN videos worked but only along with the prior ad videos. I then installed three user Extensions, the third of which was Adblock Plus. The first two had no effect on CNN. Ads were displayed. Third, I installed Adblock Plus, which resulted in black screen videos -- no play of CNN video at all unless I disabled Adblock from CNN.com.

Then, I logged on here and tried your filter, which failed. Then, per your suggestion above, I disabled the first two user extensions, leaving only Adblock Plus enabled, in addition to the Firefox default configuration (including Acrobat, Shockwave, and Java), which I did not touch at any stage. Disabling these two extensions had no effect -- still no play -- black video unless Adblock was disabled for CNN.

Then I restarted Firefox in safe mode which disabled all three of my user extensions including Adblock Plus. The result was strange. Sometimes it skipped the ad video (without Adblock), and sometimes it did not skip it. I have no idea what could be going on here.

I filed an issue report, the URL for which is below. In my report, I referenced this thread and the filter that did not work for me.

Any other suggestions?

You didn't submit the issue report using my filter. Please submit again but using also that filter.

It is working now. I had failed to follow the instructions correctly. First, I did not understand what the thing "on the right" was, because the filter rule window pane (supposed to be on the right) was not displaying. There is a little pull out widget on the right I did not notice. After I figured that out, I entered the filter rule in that window. But then the recommended line
@@||turner.com/xslo/cvp/ads/freewheel/bundles/2/AdManager.swf$domain=cnn.com filter
did not work because the appended word "filter" was considered part of the domain. I removed the appended word "filter", and it worked.

Here is a third report, just for the record, after your filter was added properly and worked.

Just so there is (hopefully) no further confusion, below are the detailed instructions for Firefox that worked for me:

--------------------------------------
Adding CNN filter for Adblock Plus to Firefox
--------------------------------------

Under the Adblock Plus pulldown menu (on the right end of the URL bar), select Filter Preferences. A filter definition window opens.
Check to see if there are two window panes displayed. If not, use a window expansion widget on the right edge to display the right window pane.
The left window pane is for "Filter group". Click "Add Filter Group" and enter a title of the new filter group, e.g., "mapx filter for CNN"
The right window is for the filter rule(s) in that group. There is only one rule in this case.
Click "Add filter" and then paste the following into the Filter rule box:
@@||turner.com/xslo/cvp/ads/freewheel/bundles/2/AdManager.swf$domain=cnn.com
Make sure the filter is "Enabled", then hit the Close button.

Got an answer today April 14, '15 on what to do regarding cnn videos and other problems.
Have to update filters in adblock. Maybe a big 'DUH' to some of you, but to me, it took a while to figure out. Here's what AdBlock posted:

Please try updating your filters manually: en/faq_basics#update-filterlists. It worked like a charm. NO problem now on CNN videos.
