If you're using an older version of Safari and want to block ads
you might not have the same level of support for modern ad-blocking extensions as newer versions of the browser. However, you can try the following methods to minimize or block ads on an older Safari version:
Safari Settings:

Pop-Up Blocking:
Open Safari.
Go to the Safari menu and select "Preferences."
Navigate to the "Security" tab.
Check the box next to "Block pop-up windows" to prevent pop-up ads.

Hosts File Modification:

This method involves editing your computer's hosts file to block access to known ad servers. Please note that modifying system files can have unintended consequences, so proceed with caution.

Open Terminal:
Open the Terminal application on your Mac. You can find it in the Utilities folder within the Applications folder.

Edit the Hosts File:
Type the following command and press Enter to open the hosts file in a text editor:
Consider Browser Alternatives:

If ad-blocking is crucial for your browsing experience, and Safari on your system doesn't support your desired extensions, you might consider using alternative browsers that provide robust ad-blocking capabilities. Browsers like Firefox or Chrome often support a variety of extensions, including ad blockers.

Remember that using outdated software can pose security risks, so it's generally advisable to keep your software up-to-date. If your system is compatible, consider updating to a newer version of Safari or using a different browser that receives regular updates and supports the latest security features
