Help Blocking Element Please

Recently a site I visit daily (
http://www.nydailynews.com/ny) started using an ad background and it slows the site down quite a bit.
When I'm scrolling on the page you can notice a huge lag. During the week, this ad usually disappears and I get back my normal speed.
I tried blocking the element manually but it has no affect. If I try to block the ad in a different spot, it blocks the whole site content.
Can anyone post the filter to remove the background image so I can scroll normally again? Huge Thanks, Much Appreciated

I copied and pasted this into the filter list and I could not get it to work.
The background ad is still present. Do I have to add anything to the text?
Does this work when you try it on the site? Thanks so much for you're help.

Hi, I pasted the text you posted in the second tab in ABP options, "Add you're own Filters".
I still can't get it to work. I tried the same steps in chrome and I got it to work. Strange
I restarted Safari, tried re adding the filter and I still get the background ad.
I'm not sure why this is not working. Here are some Screens. Thanks Again
