This is a Safari issue. Mostly after the update to Mac OS X Mavericks, some users get that error when trying to install different extensions.

Please try:
1. Go to Safari -> Preferences -> Extensions and make sure that no version of Adblock Plus is installed.
2. Reboot your Mac.
3. Download and install Adblock Plus from the official website.

If that doesn't help, please try following:
1. Quit safari if it is running.
2. Delete your Safari profile under ~/Library/Safari (CAUTION: this will reset all settings, uninstall all extensions, and clear all browsing data).
3. Open Safari again.
4. Download and install Adblock Plus from the official website.

Don't do step 2, just go inside the folder Safari, then inside folder Extensions and just remove any file called Adblock Plus. Then just reopen safari and reinstall adblock. There's no use in removing all of your settings, and browsing data.

When you uninstall the extension (as I suggested to try first), all extension data are removed. But that won't help in case your Safari profile is messed up or if an other extension or your Safari settings are causing problems. And the easiest way to eliminate those issues is by using a fresh Safari profile.

I had a prob with this too. In my case in ~/Library/Safari my Extensions folder was a broken alias for some reason! Deleting it, and creating a fresh folder called Extensions allowed me to install adblock like a champ! Woohoo!
