Ads not served via an ad engine

Post by adwatch »

Does adb block adverts that are not served up via an ad engine? Have a site that looks like they host their own adverts. Have reported the issue a few times via the report issue option and shaded in the areas where the adverts are, but they still show up. The ad content is pretty close to 50% of their page.

@adwatch Hey there! Thanks for reaching out to us! Based on what you describe, those ads could be viewed as self promotion and we wouldn't block those. Can you send me an example so I can confirm? The URL and a screenshot of the ads would be very helpful.

Thanks

Thanks Shannon.

If by self promotion means advertising their own services, then no, that is not the case. They are paid advertising placements of other organisations and business offerings.

URL is http://pilotspost.co.za/ Home page whole right 50% of page is ads. Click on any article and entire right sidebar are ads with a bunch of banners inside the article. Example: http://pilotspost.co.za/arn0001909.

Yes there are some google ads too, which yes abp did catch. My query is around the rest, 'self hosted' ads that are not caught by abp.

@adwatch Thanks for the URL! ABP would likely just recognize these as images. You can block them manually by clicking on the ABP icon >and choosing block element > and selecting the area of the ad. I will also reach out to our filter list team to see if here is anything further we could do on our end. Thanks again for reaching out.

Thanks

That is exactly how ads should be hosted. I wouldn't expect it to block these, it is part of the content of the page.

They shouldn't place them in the middle of the page content so you have to scroll past them, nor should they flash or anything nasty like that, but then they should be considered "acceptable".
