Text ad option and subscribe overlays

Apologies if these issues are discussed elsewhere. I'm not even sure if this is the right group to post this in, but here goes. I have two requests for features, and "acceptable ads" would seem to be the most logical category.

[1] I would like a way to allow text ads only on a site, either as a general policy (e.g. allow acceptable ads) or as an option that I can turn on or off. There are websites that I would be glad to support by allowing ads, but most ads these days are animated and flash and move and do everything to distract me from reading or viewing what I came for. I can't concentrate on what I'm reading with these things flashing at the side of the screen, but I would gladly allow text ads or even graphic ads that don't have any animation. Is this a feature that could be considered for future features?

[2] Can Adblock Plus also block these accursed overlays that pop up quickly after you enter a site? They usually ask you to subscribe to their newsletter or subscribe to their social media pages. I don't even know what is on their site yet and I'm asked to endorse them and give them my email address??? These things drive me nuts and if I just don't have the patience to get rid of it, I leave the site. It seems most sites are doing this now too. Arg! Is there any way these could be added to the blocked objects on Adblock's radar? Although they're not 3rd party ads, they do advertise for the site itself and therefore can be categorized as something Adblock could manage. If there's a way to do this already, I haven't found it. Since this practice is EVERYWHERE I wouldn't want to have to do it site by site either. Can this be added to non-acceptable ads? Or should this request be posted with one of the subscriptions (e.g. EasyList)?

Many thanks. :-)

1. the solution would be - like you said - using the acceptable ads, but obviously will be enabled for all the sites in that special list.
2. those annoying things have a dedicated list (fanboy's annoyances). You can subscribe it from: http://adblockplus.org/en/subscriptions
If you are already using the social list, disable it (the social list is already included in the annoyances list).

Do you mean that I have the capability of doing this now through "acceptable ads"?

Thanks very much. I just subscribed to it, but it's filtering out more than I want it to. For instance, from the subscription's filter list, I see there are many icons that are blocked that I would prefer to see. Can I edit the filter list that is used?

Thanks.

1. only for the sites already in the "acceptable ads" list. Other sites, well, you'll have to unblock some text ads to support them (it's not an automatic thing. You have to analyze page by page and see what and how to do such a thing, what to whitelist, avoid wrong whitelisting.)

2. in firefox you can disable the filters you want (using the blockable items list)
in chrome (but sure also in firefox), you have to write exception filters for those icons you want to see.

I'm just rereading these suggestions but I'm kind of back at my original request: to have an easy, straightforward way to allow text-only ads or non-animated ads (including animated GIFs) as a default; and to be able to block annoying site-entry overlays without blocking a bunch of stuff I don't want to block. Trying to do this ad by ad, site by site, page by page, or to have to edit lists manually... well, I would have to win the lottery to have time for all that. ;-)

So, I'll leave it as a request for the developers to consider adding as a future feature.

Hello ~

I registered just to add my two bytes worth. I agree with this request. The websites that throw up "Subscribe to our email" windows are exceptionally annoying. I've turned off all ads just because of that. I'm hoping it blocks those, but it means a lot of other websites are getting penalized because of those megalomaniacs. And, I also don't have the time or inclination to add custom lists, etc. Thanks for doing what you do!

just use the annoyances list (see above)
