Help social cause

Post by josh9383 »

Can we consider showing or generating acceptable content as a replacement for monetized and non-constructive ads in the very same placeholders to address social cause? To elaborate
1) Display book review/reading links from project gutenberg
2) Display daily/featured article excerpts from wikipedia/investopedia/dictionary word
3) Display transcription/translation/proof reading appeals/jobs/requests to digitize handwritten scripts
4) Display TODOs/HOWTOs ref from non-profit org sites
5) Display charity appeals from regd. orgs
6) Display user preferred widgets - such as stock quotes, exchange rates, famous quotes, sudoku puzzle, comic strip etc - This may not be appropriate from social angle - but maybe useful to spread the ABP to more users by providing user defined content placeholders while replacing ads.
7) Display fundraising appeals for non-profit/open-source/free community movements to keep their projects running.

These are just few examples I could list to start with. It may sound totally off-track - but in a way - this can bring a value ad to those who need to reach people and people will also start getting familiar with activities that help social cause. The content authentication, moderation can be done as ABP sideproject or for trusted sources - it can be directly sourced. There can be and would be limitations of geo-targeting, language differences - however options can be given to users as part of settings in the plugin/extension to provide better user acceptability.

Remaining impartial is my preferred option, even if its for non-profit/charity.

No, replacing ads is malicious behavior and illegal in multiple countries. Apart from that our users expect us to block ads and not to replace them.
