Can not get desktop shortcut to work with Adblock Plus?

I can not get Adblock Plus to work with desktop stortcuts I created in Internet Explorer with ABP icon display in status bar. Example: I make local TV or newspaper website desktop shortcut using Windows 10 with IE 11. Shortcuts work, but no ABP icon. Third party extensions are enabled. I also had same problem when I put Facebook shortcut on my wife's PC. She has to go to IE, then her favorites list to get Adblock Plus to work. Rodney1946
