Hi,
I've just started getting an IE11 warning asking whether I want to open or save smart_tag.js. Can I use AdBlock to block this? I'm not sure it's an ad.

Try resetting IE.
Tools/internet options/advanced tab, hit reset.

First thing I did was reset IE. Then I ran CCleaner, Spybot, Malwarebyte's Antimalware, House Call, and Trend Micro's Antivirus. I also turned on IE's ActiveX Fitering and SmartScreen Filter. Nothing has worked.
Might there be anyone here who is willing to answer my question, which was: Is smart_tag.js something AdBlock can block?

Who says my system is infested with malware? Maybe it's a problem with the website.
Any chance I could just get a straight answer to a straight question?

which website ?
Who says my system is infested with malware?
read again:
if your system is infested by malware ABP can do nothing

I read it the first time. It says "If." So your answer is conditional whare my question was not.
Please assume my system is NOT infested, as it has passed multiple malware scans. So given that, is AdBlock capable of blocking something like "smart_tag.js?"
I'm beginning to feel like Judge Judy. It's a yes-or-no question.
Consider this a test: Is it possible for anyone on this forum to provide a simple, non-conditional answer to a simple, non-conditional question?

I asked you which is the site you visited where you get that issue.
Is it the same site from where smart_tag.js should be downloaded ?
If we can't reproduce your issue it's difficult to help you.

You could be most helpful by just answering my question. That's really the only help I want.

If your system is malware-free, rootkit-free, ABP can block any external object ( I mean not inline elements like inline scripts).
Well, if you don't answer any question (how to reproduce your issue) our "dialogue" stops here.

I've come across smart_tag.js & removed it.
Generally a simple IE reset is all that is required but sometimes it is reinstalled by some program that also needs to be uninstalled.
Look for something similar to these, DesktopDollars, TopText, Hottext or a variation including the words TopText or Hottext.
It seems that it is considered NON-malicious ad-ware & is the reason malware cleaners don't remove it.
It may not be malware but it is what I call IDIOT-ware..

An IE reset didn't fix it, nor did multiple scans with multiple scanners find any malware. It seems to have been a problem with the particular web site. I was getting that same prompt from many different machines when going to that URL, but it is gone today.
Thank you for taking a moment to correspond. It is discouraging, however, that it seems impossible to get anyone to answer my question, which is "Can AdBlock block smart_tag.js?"

Gary I already responded your question. Don't continue with the same again and again if you don't provide any info.

Nowhere have you responded directly to my question. The only response you gave is a conditional response, "If it is malware, AdBlock can't fix it." But it's not malware, so you're response was irrelevant. I'd appreciate it if you'd just drop out of the conversation. Maybe someone else can/will respond directly to a direct question.
