Adblock stops working w/ extended use

Post by tehuti88 »

Adblock Plus version, which browser you are using (with version number), which operating system is used:

Adblock Plus version 1.4.0.0

Browser version: IE11
11.0.9600.17691
Update versions 11.0.17

Operating system: Windows 7 Home Premium

No idea. I've never set up any filters or anything.

The program just...stops working! If I've been using the browser for an extended period, making use of multiple tabs and then closing them, eventually I notice ads starting to appear on pages. I've experienced this at Amazon.com, Yahoo! homepage, and Yahoo! Mail; haven't been brave enough to try out other sites, but from past experience I'm pretty sure ads will show up there too. (My last computer got infected and became unusable after I accidentally clicked on what was probably a hijacked ad, even though I had antivirus software running--thus why I'm even using Adblock in the first place! It was a lovely and helpful program...until it stopped working!)

The problem has gotten worse over a period of several months so now Adblock is unusable. First, all I had to do was close the entire browser and reopen it and Adblock would be working again. Then that stopped working, so I would go into the manage add-ons area, disable and then enable Adblock, and then it would work again. Then that stopped working, so I had to repeat the procedure several times over, and then Adblock would work again. Now, it doesn't matter what I do. I try this over and over again and Adblock does not resume working. The little red icon shows up in the lower right of the browser, SAYING that it's running, and it's definitely enabled, but the ads still show up no matter how often I refresh or open/close the browser or disable/enable the add-on.

I haven't tried rebooting yet, but rebooting the computer EVERY time this happens isn't a viable option as this messes up my Internet connection for a while afterward, plus it's very slow to reboot.

I even uninstalled and reinstalled Adblock TWICE tonight...it resumed working for a little while...then became utterly unresponsive again, both times. Just stops working, period.

What is going on??

Please see above. This program used to work! Why has it stopped??

I hate that the only "solution" for IE users is always just "Use another browser"! If the product supports IE, then it should support IE. :(

I'm sorry to be so short, but this is so frustrating!

Did you scan your system for malware ?
use malwarebytes antimalware ==> http://filehippo.com/download_malwarebytes_anti_malware
and adwcleaner http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/adwcleaner/

Do you get ads whatever site you visit ? Provide an example page and indicate which ad is visible. But first, scan for malware, then restart your system.
