Adblock Plus

I have this installed on a number of PC's at work. We recently implement Firewall and filtering and now Internet explorer is extremely slow. I removed this software and it now it is better. My question is this trying to communicate with server to see what should be blocked or is this using a specific port?

ABP is working using the local filter lists (the lists are updated every 4-5 days)
