Re: Viewing filters and blocks
Hi,
Thanks for responding.
IE 9.
I have installed ABP, but all I have is an icon (ABP) at the foot of IE. The icon reveals (update, settings, disable) functions.
I can't find any controls, list of block used, or any kind of management that I would expect from a program.
Any information greatly received.
Best wishes.

Re: Viewing filters and blocks
from settings you can see the subscription (filters list) used
also there you'll find the list of whitelisted sites
there isnt the list of blockable items (like in firefox), custom filters or other features you can see for firefox or chrome
it's still a minimalistic version
forum/viewtopic.php?p=83534#p83534
"Currently the UI only allows you to subscribe to a single subscription, and ABP for IE currently does not support Acceptable Ads (this means it works the same way as if it did support that and you turned it off).
However, you can set up your set of subscriptions and custom filters in ABP for Firefox and copy the patterns.ini file into the relevant ABP for IE folder, and the filters will all work, but you won't be able to edit them from within ABP for IE."

Re: IE - Viewing filters and blocks
Thank you.
When you say whitelist, do you mean 'manage blocking'?
When you talk of custom filters are you saying that Fireox must be used to create the list (patterns.ini).
What is the relevant ABP IE folder?
In the default case, can we check to see if the Easy List is up to date. Is this the best list for a UK user - it was the default?
Is there a test site?
My ABP is red/white lettering. The examples show a blue icon! It is at the bottom of the IE page, not in the system tray.
Best wishes

Enter the keyboard shortcut Windows key +E to open Windows Explorer. When you talk of custom filters are you saying that Firefox must (can) be used to create the list (patterns.ini).

In the Windows Explorer window that appears enter the following in the address bar.
Windows XP: %USERPROFILE%\Local Settings\Application Data\Adblock Plus for IE
Windows Vista/ Windows 7/ Windows 8: %LOCALAPPDATA%\Adblock Plus for IE

Thanks for replying.
When I typed:
Windows XP: %USERPROFILE%\Local Settings\Application Data\Adblock Plus for IE
Windows Vista/ Windows 7/ Windows 8: %LOCALAPPDATA%\Adblock Plus for IE
I found myself with many webpages for guidance.
Is this what you intended?
Best wishes.

Ps. Can I test the blocking system?
PPs. Why am I not allowed to give a signature?

Re: IE - Viewing filters and blocks
for windows 7, go to
C:\Users\<your User Name>\Local Settings\application data\Adblock Plus for IE, and there you'll find patterns.ini, patterns-backup1.ini, ...
to test it, go to some newspaper site, for example the guardian, then click ABP icon, disable for http://www.theguardian.com/uk ==> you will see now the ads on the top of the page
(disable for some website ==> whitelist that webpage)

Re: IE - Viewing filters and blocks
Thanks for responding.
I have found the patterns file - my path is a little different, the file is in AppData - LocalLow - Adblock...
Yes, I see the Easy List filter (a couple of days out of date - it does not seem to download on a daily basis).
I will keep this list, but I suppose if I wanted to change it I would delete patterns, copy the new list into a text file (using Notepad) named patterns.ini. So I would have one list of my choice.
I noted the backup file patterns-backup1. I also have patterns-backup2. I was surprised to see that patterns backup2 is only 1KB (compared to backup1, 1207KB).
prefs.json cannot readily be opened (looks like a configuration file, but not text!).
Regarding the signature file that I mentioned. This relates to my account. I intended to place computer information, etc into the file. But I got the message that I did not have permission, or some such statement.
I wonder if the permission is related to the number of postings?
Best wishes.

If you can't find the patterns.ini file for Windows 7 (or possibly other versions) in the listed location, try this one:Enter the keyboard shortcut Windows key +E to open Windows Explorer.

Windows XP: %USERPROFILE%\Local Settings\Application Data\Adblock Plus for IE
Windows Vista/ Windows 7/ Windows 8: %LOCALAPPDATA%\Adblock Plus for IE

Re: IE - Viewing filters and blocks
Without real functionality adblock for IE is just useless.

Re: IE - Viewing filters and blocks
It blocks ads and tracking beacons, and it allows you to create exceptions. That's real functionality. In contrast, IE's Tracking Protection Lists only block tracking from third-party sites.
