how to report re-directs?

Post by fred999 »

I have a site I go to regularly, and on the site I click a link which goes to another page on the site.

But before it goes to that page, it opens a window which redirects to an ad site. The first window re-directs very quickly, so I hardly have time to see the URL, but it's "ad-rev-something", and then the actual ad site opens up.

So my question is, if I report this as not blocking these ads, do I need to report the URL of the "ad-rev-something" site, or the final actual site I end up at? And how would I get the URL of the "ad-something" site, since it happens so quickly? Or maybe I should be reporting the initial site?

Using XP and IE8.

Thanks.

The original page is for example, http://filepost.com/files/717668de/Crit695.part01.rar/

It is a file locker, look for the button labelled "Low Speed Download". Click the button, and this will popunder a window with the URL "ad.directrev.com", which then re-directs to another URL.

Another thing, this often tries to bring in some malware, trojan, etc, which my virus checker alerts me to.

I've googled ad.directrev.com, and seems it's associated with malware. I don't believe my computer is infected, since I don't have any of the symptoms, except for when I click the above mentioned button.

Thanks.

even if easylist has already the rule for blocking that site / popup (ad.directrev.com) does not work for IE (it's working for firefox / chrome / opera)

so, you could edit your hosts file and try blocking there ad.directrev.com
see how-to:
http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/faq/id-18 ... ndows.html

you have to add a row like this:

Code: Select all

127.0.0.1 ad.directrev.com

Thanks mapx, will do.

One other question, how often do the blocking lists update on my computer? I didn't see any way to manually update, so I presume there might be a schedule?
