Adblock 1.0 prevents attaching files to Gmail in IE 10

Post by Fdisk »

Hi all,

First off let me say I've been using Adblock on my IE 10, Windows 7 x64 PC for the last couple weeks and it's been great. I've had no problems whatsoever.

*But this morning when I went to attach a file in Gmail from IE 10, IE crashed. Yet I can attach files just fine in Chrome. I googled around and apparently this appears to be a common issue for IE 10 and Gmail, everyone suggests disabling add ons. I disable my add ons and lo and behold, the culprit is AdBlock! I only had 2 add ons to begin with, an adobe and an adblock. Disabling the Adblock fixed the issue, and re-enabling made the issue return.

I tried several things to fix this issue.

Things I tried which did NOT work:
1. Check for Updates - doesn't fix the issue.
2. Disable Adblock on mail.google.com - doesn't fix the issue.
3. On my Windows 7 Programs in the control panel, I had two Ad Blocks listed. I tried to "repair" both installations - doesn't fix the issue. And I don't know why I had two installations. One said it was a x64 bit install yet I didn't see a specific x64 bit install from your site when I went to re-download. Was this phased out?

TO REPAIR:

I had to flat out remove and reinstall adblock from my computer, both versions listed in Programs. I looked at the old install file which I saved and it indicated it was version 1.0. When I downloaded this morning, they had upgraded the file name to adblockplusie-1.1.exe .. Version 1.1. So why didn't the update actually update Adblock and fix it?

This solution worked, and I am now able to attach files in gmail using IE 10.0.9200.16721 (latest), while using Adblock 1.1, in my 64 bit Windows 7 PC.

I thought I should report this as a bug because neither updating or repairing adblock worked. I had to remove it and download/perform a full reinstallation. I know, right? Because nobody ever has to remove and reinstall Windows programs, Windows and its' programs are so reliable.

*Did not get the specific error message however if you google the issue and look at the gmail forums several users have posted it there.

Thanks all,
Fdisk
