Corrupted Program, can't uninstall/reinstall/install new

Post by A Name »

As the title says, I'm stuck. Got a Cryptowall virus which deleted tens of thousands of files from my computer, of which, apparently, "adblockplusie-1.2-multilanguage-x64.msi" was one. Tried uninstalling from 'programs and features' unsuccessfully, downloaded the 1.3 installer and tried that, then when that failed, moved back to the v1.2 installer, and in all instances, I received an error from the installer saying the above file couldn't be found, and installation/uninstalling could therefore not be completed. Saw a thread where the poster renamed the v1.2 installer "adblockplusie-1.2-multilanguage-x64.msi" and was able to affect an install, but this won't work for me, either with the msi extension, or as "adblockplusie-1.2-multilanguage-x64.msi.exe". In the former case, the installer simply won't run, and in the latter, I end up with the same can't-find-the-file error message. I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate x64 and IE 11.0.9600.16428, though I doubt either of those details matter. I'm hoping for help, but with what little I understand about computers, I expect my only hope of either properly uninstalling this program or updating to a newer version is to acquire a copy of the .msi file I've mentioned. If there are alternative possibilities to overcome this issue, I'm all ears, but if someone would be so kind as to upload a copy of the file - from a Windows 7 x64 install - and post a link for me, I'd be grateful.

after such virus (Cryptowall) you should reinstall windows
however you could delete all the entries in the registry for adblockplus and then try again to reinstall ABP for IE

For your specific case, it is better to re-install Windows and all of your programs, and try to restore or rebuild your settings.

However, for the general case of corrupted Windows Installer entries, you could try this old program: http://www.majorgeeks.com/files/details ... ility.html

If Adblock Plus doesn't show up in that list, try this newer, but less flexible, program that Microsoft released when the older one wasn't working well with Office 2007: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/mat ... _uninstall
There's a buzzin' in my brain I really can't explain; I think about it before they make me go to bed.
