Problem with FilterList- Help?

Post by adblockplus »

Hi,
When I open "Settings" for the AdBlock Plus toolbar, the list of languages doesn't appear; there's just a blank space where the options should be. In addition, it doesn't actually block any ads.
Hoping for some advice.

P.S.- What does it mean when, while browsing a site, a pop-up appears saying, "How dare you block my adverts, prepare to feel my wrath"? I turned off my laptop right away, but shouldn't AdBlock Plus prevent this from happening?

Edit: I've already tried removing and re-installing AdBlock several times. It used to work- it just doesn't work now, and I can't disable it either without removing the program. Also, the pop up appeared after I tried visiting a website posted on another thread to test whether AdBlock was working or not; apparently, it didn't:

forum/viewtopic.php?t=25282

Honestly, would you recommend finding an alternative to AdBlock?

I recently ran into this issue where adblock plus in IE stopped working - the icon was still in the status bar, but no ads were blocked, and the language list on the settings page was blank.

I have now got it working again. I tried many things, but I think in the end it boiled down to:

(1) Uninstall Adblock Plus
(2) Delete the "C:\Program Files\Adblock Plus for IE" folder - your uninstaller sucks and doesn't actually remove any of the files!
(3) Delete the folder "C:\Users\<username>\AppData\LocalLow\Adblock Plus for IE" to get rid of all the settings/preferences
(4) Install Adblock Plus again. I installed 1.2.727 as I had that already downloaded from when I first installed Adblock Plus (I then upgraded now to the latest version 1.4 and it still works, so can probably just use that).
(5) Reboot.

Hopefully it will now work.

I did actually go nuclear and deleted all the Adblock plus entries from the Windows registry, but I think in the end that didn't matter as it didn't solve the problem - deleting the settings folder in AppData did however help.
