adblock does not work

Post by frank smith »

A few years back I was using IE and downloaded ad block + it did not stop any adds

then a mate put me onto Chrome and ad block worked well

In their wisdom Google decided to block add-ons that didn't belong to them, my anti virus was disabled so I ditched Chrome and started using IE again, downloaded add block again and low and behold all the adds are there

On IE, it is useless in my eyes

you can begin with a full scan for malware / adware:
use

read
forum/viewtopic.php?f=16&t=23484
forum/viewtopic.php?f=16&t=19217

about removing other IE addons which can block ABP

btw, don't blame google, chrome and others when you install some crap in your system.
millions of people are using chrome without no issues ... but not installing all the malware they see around

You failed to tell us what versions of Windows & IE you are using.
I would start by uninstalling then re-installing IE to make sure the existing install is not broken. Malware &/or other browser installs can break IE.

This fix, previously posted, relates to Windows 7 but can also be relevant to Windows 8..
(Bug description.. ABP loads with enabled icon on Status Bar but ads are not blocked).

Start with uninstalling ALL installed add-ons. (Uninstall, NOT just disable).
Reboot, install Adblock Plus. It should now work as expected.

One at a time, install any of the previously installed add-ons you may require, testing ABP's functionality after each one.

Adblock Plus for IE works just fine & is a credit to it's developers.
