Does This Only Work on Wifi?

Post by AdrianeS »

I just installed Adblock Plus on my Android phone. I was instructed to change my wifi proxy settings after installing it, so I did that. Does this mean that Adblock Plus only works on a wifi network? It seemed to work well while I was at home but when I leave my wifi network, it no longer works. Is there any way to make this work while on my mobile network?

Hello,

Adblock Plus can work on mobile networks, but it may require additional configuration compared to Wi-Fi. On some Android devices, you can change the Access Point Name (APN) settings to include the proxy and port that Adblock Plus uses for Wi-Fi.

Here’s a general guide on how to configure it:
  • Open Settings on your Android device.
  • Navigate to Network & Internet > Mobile Network > Access Point Names.
  • Select your active APN.
  • Edit the APN settings to include the proxy address (localhost or 127.0.0.1) and the port (2020 or the one specified by Adblock Plus).
  • Save the changes and restart your mobile data connection.
Please note that this method might not work on all devices or network carriers, as some carriers may restrict the editing of APN settings. Additionally, using a proxy might affect other services or apps that rely on mobile data.

I hope my suggestion is helpful for you.
