Facebook blocking?

I installed Adblock Plus for Android because I read it would block Facebook items that annoy me; specifically the "People You May Know" function that takes up 1/2 to 3/4's of my screen! I read that Adblock was the only tool that would remove this annoying feature of Facebook.
After I installed it, I launched Facebook, but there in my face loomed the dreaded "People You May Know". I went back and added Fanboy list to the one selected at install. I don't know the differences or features of each, but still have the same result.
I have a Samsung Galaxy Note II running Android 4.1.2
Why isn't Adblock ridding me of this bothersome Facebook feature?
