Block all ads

Post by slickrcbd »

The Firefox version of Adblock Plus lets some ads through by default. After Google's removing adblock Plus, I'd like to ensure there are as few ads as possible on my phone.
I have only 1gb/month of bandwith, so this will benefit me greatly.

How do I do it with the Adblock program from the website? I had a hard enough time finding how to change the settings with the Firefox for Android version, although it was quite easy in Firefox for Windows. How do I do it for the main app?

Will it even work with a brand-new HTC One X+? I just got my first smart phone a month ago as a birthday present, and I just had to take it back because it was glitching and they gave me a new phone under warranty. I'm reinstalling everything and redoing all my customizations today, and finding Adblock Plus missing from the Google Store was not a pleasant surprise.

Go into Settings -> Security -> tick "Unknown Sources" and confirm. Then open https://adblockplus.org/ on your device and you should be able to install it.

I already installed it, I'm looking for the android location of the circled setting here in Firefox:

http://www.flickr.com/photos/10736018@N ... otostream/

I may leave that checked on the desktop, but I want to minimize my bandwith on cellular, and blocking ads is an excellent way to cut down on bandwith, since they are annoying and don't do the sellers any good in my case. All the ads do is annoy me.

So, how do I "uncheck the box" on the phone the way I did in the example on the browser?

This feature is not implemented in the Android version.

Does that mean the android version allows the non-intrusive ads, or it blocks everything? I might be confused since I installed both the Firefox version and the android version at the same time, but I thought they both mentioned allowing non-intrusive advertising and said to turn it off in the preferences.

I hope the android version does NOT allow any ads.

On the other hand, it doesn't seem to be doing anything in other apps, is that because of this:

LIAR! Open firefox and do a google search for 'guitar'. There are the yellow google ads at the top and bottom of the page. Adblockplus is a useless piece of crap on android that doesn't work and YOU are a liar.
