Manifest V3

With Google's new manifest V3 system estimated to come out next year what will be done to prevent the ad wave from hitting us? Will ABP get a newer version or something?
Yes, we've been working on a version of Adblock Plus that's compatible with Manifest v3 throughout this year (e.g. in Adblock Plus 3.13) and are planning to make the switch to it soon.
We haven't set a release date for it yet, but you can follow our progress on GitLab.
Just keep in mind that Manifest v3 is more limiting than Manifest v2 and requires major changes under the hood. Therefore some functionality is going to stop working in that initial release, no matter what we do.
