Adblock Plus

I have been using adblock plus for several years.
With the advent of Firefox Version 25.0 I have had the following issue.
Start Firefox and you can browse as normal.
Shut down Firefox and restart and it may start or it fails to start with the message as follows.
Firefox is already running, but is not responding. To open anew window, you must first close the existing fireofx process, or restart your system
On shutting down the Firefox process Firefox will start normally.
The issue will continue to occur within 2 or three shut downs and start ups.
Disable Adblock Plus and I can start and shut down Firefox until the proverbial cows come home

I have the same problem (exactly) with firefox 25
I 'm using WIN7 pro 64...

I have exactly the same problem here on windows 7 64 bits since firefox 25. Uninstalling and reinstalling firefox 25 while keeping the same profile won't fix the problem.

Unfortunately nothing on the mozilla forum link seems to solve the problem, and contrary to the one guy there who says it's not an adblockplus-specific problem because he has it too with noscript, I don't have the problem with noscript, only with adblockplus. Using a new firefox 25 install with a new clean profile with the only installed extension adblockplus and all plugins disabled (and even with antivirus avira free realtime protection temporarily disabled), the problem is here again.

After further research the problem appears only with SIMULTANEOUSLY :

* firefox version number 25 (not with 24)
* adblock plus installed and activated
* private browsing ON

With private browsing off the problem disappears, if this can help. But again, private browsing ON with adblockplus OFF does not cause any problem.

I have made a clean install with firefox 25.
when I install adblock plus, the process "firefox.exe" does not stop.
I disable it, everything works normally.
Addons: adblock plus 2.4, Wot (disabled),
internet donwload manager, sticky password
antivirus : Eset 7.0.302.8
With my other computer win7 pro 32, it's Ok !

I'm using firefox 26.b1
the problem seems to have disappeared...

Same problem on both of my pcs. Firefox process stays active after shutdown. win 7 64bit pro and home versions

Just installing firefox 26.b1 doesn't fix it for me. In a sense it's worse because in 26.b1 it sometimes hang at exit even with adblock plus (and all other plugins and extensions) disabled. However I did not see firefox 26.b1 hang after I used a new profile, even with adblock plus installed on this new profile. Maybe I did not wait long enough, or this may be a solution...

Has someone filed a bug on Bugzilla?

with v.26 (beta) the problem disappeared!

When the adblockplus extension is installed in Firefox 25.0, Firefox stays open even after closing it. A user will get an error message that states Firefox is already running when you try to reopen Firefox after closing it. This happens every time you close Firefox.

Never use private browsing
Uninstalled Adblock Plus 2.4. Problem gone.
Reinstalled Adblock Plus. Problem came back.
Uninstalled Adblock Plus. Problem gone.

Installed Firefox 26.0b4 over 25.0 with Adblock Plus 2.4 already installed. Problem gone.

Actually what I said is wrong, I have the problem with private browsing on, and also with private browsing off, but then only if I set the browser to clear history when closing in the privacy settings. For me the problem seems to be caused by history clearing when firefox closes, when adblock plus is installed. Could other people confirm this ?

Hangs FF 25.
