[238] Firefox windows taking longer and longer to open

Post by woslv »

In the last couple weeks I noticed that new windows take longer to open after using Firefox for a while on a high-end PC. I can easily and consistently replicate the problem by starting Firefox with a blank window, opening about 20 windows, closing them all, and then opening a new window, which takes as long as two seconds. The more windows have been previously opened and closed, the longer it takes to open a new one. New tabs are okay. I disabled AdBlock and the problem went away. In fact, just removing the AdBlock button from the Firefox toolbar while leaving the extension enabled fixes the problem. Even having the AdBlock button in the add-on bar when the add-on bar is hidden makes new windows open slowly.

what ABP version are you using ?
if the stable one, try the last dev build

It's still a problem in the latest dev build. I even did a fresh install of Firefox 28 and AdBlock with all default settings on another system and had exactly the same problem. Both are Windows 7 x64. I have buttons for other add-ons like FoxyProxy in my toolbar and they don't cause any slowdown.

I added my comments there, and the original reporter reopened the defect. Thanks.
