Adblock Plus

Lately, I've been inundated with extraneous websites popping up while I browse for others, sometimes 3 or 4. Is this a failure of Adblock? Also I frequently get anti-Adblock displays asking me to turn off Adblock so I can enjoy their junk appeals. I never do this but can I stop these entreaties?. I'm all for open marketing but not at my expense. Thanks for any guidance.

and adwcleaner http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/adwcleaner/
