Adblock Plus

Some YouTube videos such as this one:

do not display properly when Adblock Plus 1.9.4 is enabled with the EasyList (in Chrome 47.0.2526.106 m on Windows 7 64bit). The video shows as a blank black screen but the audio plays normally. Disabling Adblock Plus and reloading the page solves the problem. Enabling it and reloading the page reinstates the problem. Restarting Chrome makes no difference. Many other videos play normally with or without AdBlock Plus enabled.

Only the EasyList is enabled in AdBlock settings, and I have no custom filters. "Allow some non-intrusive advertising" is also enabled.

Seeing as the audio plays but video doesn't, I'm wondering if it's somehow breaking YouTube's HTML5 player rather than blocking the video stream itself?

I can't reproduce your issue.

- did you disable all other extensions ? (to exclude conflicts)
- clear cookies / cache
- if still happens you could reset chrome, install ABP, test again.

or you could first use chrome portable + ABP and test that video again.

Thanks. Rather strange results: Long story short, in Chrome Portable things seemed to work as intended. In my normal Chrome, turning off all extensions other than AdBlock Plus seemed to yield inconsistent results. Clearing the cache and cookies seemed to fix the problem at first, but then after reloading the video multiple times and reenabling the Adblock Warning Removal List, the problem would start to occur again. Disabling the Adblock Warning Removal List did not solve the problem.

I returned to Chrome Portable. Loaded the video normally. Toggled the EasyList and Adblock Warning Removal List checkboxes while using the F5 key to reload the video page in-between. At first there was no change, but after a while the problem occurred.

Once the problem does appear, it continues to occur fairly consistently while AdBlock and the EasyList are both active, but in rare circumstances the problem disappears even then. The problem never occurs if AdBlock or the EasyList is disabled.

I'm wondering if the inconsistency might be related to whether or not YouTube is attempting to show a pre-video ad when the page is loaded.

Another example: I just returned to Chrome Portable now, where the issue had been occurring. I reloaded the page and the video worked normally. AdBlock Plus, the EasyList and the Adblock Warning Removal List were all enabled.

Reloaded five more times with the same result. On the sixth reload, the problem started to occur. Reloaded twenty more times and each time the video was completely black.

I tried in my normal chrome 15-20 times, all fine here even switching acceptable ads on / off.

If there was a way for me to see what the 3 items listed as blocked in the ABP dropdown when the problem occurs are, it might make the problem easier to figure out.

It seems that all youtube videos are working properly in chrome even if I have abp in my browser. I tried it few times.

you could go into console (in windows press ctrl-shift-J) and see the rows containing Failed to load

I am also having this problem- not only getting advertisements on youtube, but they don't allow you to skip after the 5 seconds for the really long ones. Have to sit through some ads that are 2 minutes or longer and really frustrated!
