Bug: Some javascript block with the "chat" feature

Post by Huygens »

Hi,

So, first of all I just upgraded to Firefox 2.0 RC2 and I found a bug. After investigation, this bug is due to Adblock Plus. Here is what and why.

The bug is simple, there is a "quick contact" section when you are logged in the Gmail web interface, it allows (with the help of some javascript I guess) to chat with other Jabber friends (people on Google Talk or Jabber). When someone write you, you get a sound and a small inside window that open with the message. Also the title of the page "blink" between "Google Mail [...]" and "Friend1 is writing you".
This was working with Firefox 1.5 and Adblock Plus.
This seems to work with Firefox 2.0 RC2 and Adblock Plus but not fully: if you have only one tab with Gmail opened. It is working. If you have at least two tabs, and the active tab is not the one with Gmail, then you have no feedback that someone has wrote you (no sound or title "blinking") and if you go back to gmail tab after a while, you see the small inside window opened but you do not see anything of what your friend would have written!

So, I thought this was Firefox 2.0 RC2 pb. I created a new empty profile and tested: it is working. Then I went back to my profile, disabled all add-ons, and tested: it is working. Then I proceeded add-on by add-on: enable it, restart FF, test it, disable it. All tests were working except when I had Adblock Plus enabled.
And this is not a bug in the rules, because google.com is in my whitelist and I even deactivate Adblock Plus from its own menu (not in the FF add-ons but inside Adblock Plus options). Thus FF loads Adblock+ and this add-on simply should be inactif because it has a preference set for this.

So in my opinion this is clearly a bug in Adblock Plus for the new Firefox 2 platform!

Well, this is clearly a regression in FF 2.0 that is triggered (but not caused) by Adblock Plus. I will investigate this, thanks for reporting the issue.
