Adblock Plus

When will Adblock Plus be available in a universal binary for Mac OS X running on an intel Mac, so that I would not have to run it under Rosetta (Power PC emulation)?

I just installed Firefox 1.5.0.7 and Adblock Plus 0.7.1.2 on an intel Mac running OS X 10.4.6. I love Adblock Plus, but to get it to work, I have to boot Firefox in Rosetta mode. However, when I do that, I lose Java functionality under Firefox (as described in the Firefox release notes).

Please tell me that you are working on a universal binary version that will run natively on both Power PC and Intel processors!

Adblock Plus (like all other Firefox extensions) is distributed as a Javascript archive and so is entirely processor-independent. The failure to run in native mode would appear to be a bug in either AB+ or Firefox.

I should further note that I am presently running the same versions of Firefox and AB+ on an Intel Mac but have not yet encountered the above problem. Does Firefox have any other extensions loaded?

As PMB already said, Adblock Plus is absolutely independent from processor and operating system, it should run fine everywhere you have Firefox or some other compatible browser. So you might want to tell me what exactly isn't working.

Thanks for the response. Here is what I am seeing when running Firefox in native Intel mode (which should allow Java to work properly):

First, the Adblock Plus icon on the toolbar is greyed out and is unresponsive.

Second, when I turn on the View:Sidebar: Adblock Plus, no sidebar appears.

Third, some banner ads are blocked, but a white space is left where the banner ad would have been and, if I right click the space, the contextual menu allows me the option of unblocking the site, but it does not work. Other ads are not blocked and when I right click on the ad, no option to block the ad appears in the contextual menu.

Fourth, in the Java console, many errors are logged, such as (a) unexpected end of file, (b) unknown property, (c) error in parsing value, and (d) win247 has no properties.

I would appreciate any advice you can provide.

When you are running Firefox under Rosetta - is it the same profile? I guess not. Did you try creating a new profile? If you install Adblock Plus there - does it work?

The only other extensions that I am running in Firefox are DOM Inspector 1.8.0.7 and Talkback 1.5.0.7.

I believe I did install a set of filters. I am not sure which one, but I think it was "Easy" something.

Thanks. I didn't know anything about the profiles until I read your reply. I don't remember being asked to which profile I wanted to install adblock plus. I will try creating a new profile and migrating my settings to it.

Many thanks! It now works just fine. I have lost all of my bookmarks, but I will see if I can figure out the migration of setting.
