Recurring new tab in Firefox

Post by sbell »

Still seeing the "Adblock Plus has been successfully installed" message in a new tab using Firefox?

This is a known Firefox issue, and we are working with the developers over at Mozilla to correct this. Some users have found success by removing Adblock Plus using the the instructions in this link https://help.eyeo.com/en/adblockplus/un ... s?5de59f86, and reinstalling via https://adblockplus.org.

For others still having this issue, try creating a new Firefox Profile.

You can create a new Firefox profile directly from the browser using the steps below:

1.Type about:profiles into the browser URL search bar
2.On the page, click Create a New Profile button
3.Read the introduction, and click Next
4.Enter a profile name for your new Profile.
Use a profile name that is descriptive, such as your personal name. This name is not exposed to the Internet.
5.Optionally, to change where the profile will be stored on your computer, click Choose Folder...
6.To create the new profile, click Finish.

Thanks

This bug has been reported for months and months with the same cookie cutter response (try a new profile, reinstall ABP). I am now (Dec. 27) also running into this very annoying issue.

Does ABP actually expect the average user to create a new profile and migrate over all their old extensions, settings and bookmarks? To have to do that every time it occurs is bothersome and time consuming.

When will an actual update that fixes this problem come out, one that doesn't require the user to jump through hoops to make it work?

This problem needs to be fixed by Firefox so, unfortunately, there's nothing we can do other than support the Firefox team and hope that they'll release a fix for it sooner than later (see Firefox bug 1522188).
