Adblock Plus 0.7.1

Post by Master X »

I have some questions regarding the new version:
changelog wrote:Filter list export determines lowest required Adblock/Adblock Plus version and starts the list with either [Adblock] (no special requirements), comment+[Adblock] (a version of Adblock Plus lower than 0.7.1 is required) or [Adblock Plus {version}] (Adblock Plus 0.7.1 or higher required)
What is a "comment"? "!text" or only "text"? Is a space enough?
changelog wrote:The time when a filter was last applied is stored now (is shown in the “Last hit” column in Preferences, this column is hidden by default)
Nice feature, but a bit useless to me, since it eats too much space. The line shows "Friday, 30. June 2006 16:12:10". I do not know if it is depending on OS, but could it be pruned in the next version? "30.6.2006 16:12" should be enough, I believe.

Not disagreeing with you, but you can shrink down the column to where it only shows a few letters. This is enough to show the day of the week, since it's the first thing displayed in that column. Then if you are unsure of the date/time just hover your mouse over a filter in the last used column and it will show all the info in a box. It works well in WinXP anyway, don't know about other OSs. Not a solution, but a get ya by.

It might be nice to allow for a horizontal scroll bar. This would allow you to keep the preference window size manageable, adjust the columns to the width you like, and scroll over to look at the hit time or what ever columns are not visible.

I think that in this context comment means simply text. No "!" needed. Because, when I export a filter, Adblock Plus uses "(Adblock Plus 0.7 or higher required) [Adblock]" in the first line.

That's right. Adblock ignores any text before "[Adblock]" on the first line - and Adblock Plus does too for that reason.

"Last hit" column isn't meant to be open all the time. As to the date output format - it is the default format on your OS. If you are on Windows XP you can change it in the Regional Settings in the Control Panel.

@asmodeous: Gecko's tree widget doesn't support horizontal scrolling. There are tooltips if text is clipped however...

Adblock Plus is adding newly created filters to the end of the list. I am (and perhaps many others) used to it, because it was always this way.

But with the new inline filter adding system, it would be perhaps more logical to add new filters to the beginning. The advantage would be, that you can modify/delete new filters quickly, without having to scroll the whole list down.

Yes, this sound quite logical, I like the idea too. I have to scroll down until I found my last filter. And unfortunately it is not at the bottom, because I have some subscriptions and element-hiding-filters, too.
