whitelisted filters get overridden by blocking filters

I have some filters that should whitelist content on some pages. But other filters which are parsed after the whitelist filters cause the whitelisted content to vanish. When content is whitelisted, it should never be removed.
Example:
@@http://www.nytimes.com/technology/pogue ... Editorial)
should preserve the content on the right side of the page in the url. But this vanishes when adblock hits this filter:
promo
which I use to block actual ads.
