Adblock or Adblock plus?

Post by Mike »

What is the difference between them besides the size? They seem to be the same...which is better?

Official Adblock Project is dead.
I'am sure about it, because Official forum is also dead, no developers there.
If project is not dead, then i'am pretty sure it will be soon:)

It's not dead, especially since mcm joined the project, it's just not doing much of anything. Still developing the mysterious Adblock 0.6, I guess.

I know mcm joined, and he is pretty much only one who has posted something there (Official Adblock forum).

Anyway, for me: "it's just not doing much of anything." is same as "dead, or will be very soon." :)

Incidentally, mcm position was strange. Why working with rue instead of Wladimir... Maybe WP wanted to be alone, after his problems with rue...

It could have been easier if rue had admited the superiority of AB+... unless he also rewrites all the code..

With how long it's taken Adblock 0.6 to come out, they better have completely rewritten it.

They did, at least when it comes to the user interface part, and that's the worst thing about it. Adblock 0.6 (the build I've seen in December) has an entirely different interface, and it definitely changed for the worse (yes, it really is possible to make it even worse). If you remember the outcry because I changed some relatively minor interface details in Adblock Plus 0.6 - the outcry that will come when Adblock 0.6 is released (if ever) will be hundred times stronger.

@pirlouy: Yes, I wanted to be alone, or at least the only one to check in code. Mcm with his Adblock Plus 0.5 has done more in half a year than rue in three years but still - coordinating even two people in a project costs time and you must have a good reason to do this.

Be careful when you say it is worse...
There are some people who think that AB+ 0.6 is very bad "built in". In fact, they get used to AB, and don't want to stay with AB+ 0.6. :/

Maybe this 0.6 build will be well-appreciated... (anyway, AB is not dead)

An other question, maybe you know: why Mcm or rue want to work with this "G" ? mcm is writing filterset updater and rue said one time: "We're waiting for G's consent, on filterset.G"

Yet, G is just someone (like another) who creates filterset, no ?

pirlouy, most people have problems with my user interface because they have to learn something new. In case of Adblock 0.6 the user interface really is horrible.

As to working together with G: they want to offer Filterset.G as a default subscription for Adblock.

where did you see the adblock 0.6 version. Is it better than our's.
And how have they changed their already crumbling interface

AB vs AB+

Post by snotnosebrat »

It also depends on what browser you are using. On SeaMonkey for WinXP, Ubuntu/Xubuntu/Kubuntu Linux 6.06, and Fedora Core Linux 5, AB+ breaks the browser, so I have to use AB only.

On each of those, AB+ works fine in Firefox, so I use AB+. I'm not sure which one K-Meleon and K-Ninja (Win XP) have built in, but it works great, especially once I turned on Flashblocking.

I'm pretty sure there must be something else wrong within your SeaMonkey,
because ABP works fine in SeaMonkey for me for a long time, spanning several
ABP and SeaMonkey versions - it even works in current trunk nightlies.

I run SeaMonkey on both WinXP and some Linux flavours, with no trouble at all.
