Adblock Plus 0.6 - Feature Request

Post by MAD-Max »

Hi, I was one of those who refuses to install your AdBlock plus versions because I was not sure of how efective it can be.

I installed and I see that works good, and faster than AB+ 0.5 do for me.

I only miss a feature from AB+0.5: Site Support, in order to download ads but not to show it in some websites.
Some people say that websites usually get money by click in AD, but some other sites uses pixel control (an image of single pixel) to register how many times the site has been visited.
Whitelist is good for some sites, but not if do not want to see any AD and support a site at same time

Thanks a lot by the time that you are expending developing this wonderful extension.

simply whitelist the tracker , then you will be tracked, but the ads are still not visible

Ahh, that's true.
Sorry, I thought that whitelisting works in the same way as in AD+0.5 (downloading ans showing ADs)

... it seems than do not work (or may be I cannot know how to makes work properly)

For example:
@@/http\:\/\/(\w|\.)?sourceforge.net\// or @@sourceforge.net

shows me sponsor ADs at sourceforge.net

I want to suport whole sourceforge.net (including projects as gaim.sourceforge.net), but not see ads

That is whole point when you whitelist.

What are you going to click if you don't see anything.
I'am sure whoever advertises there (sourceforge.net) is not stupid, it means you must click ads and just loading them does nothing.

edit: So Site Support is totally useless feature.
if you still need to load ads, but not see them, try RIP: http://rip.mozdev.org

I want to support SourceForge, but also some other sites too.

What I want is normal filters still works, but when a I'm browsing suport website, then all normal filters match as usual, but downloads it and not see it

Have you tried this feature with AdBlock Plus 0.5?? This is one of the reason why I move to AD+0.6 so late (and the feature that may makes me come back to AD+0.5 again)

Then, you can stay with 0.5.
If you want to hide things after downloading it, then use usercontent.

Supporting a site = clicking on ads, downloading the ad image is not enought (in 95%)

If you really want to support a site, then you add it in the whitelist, and now, you can click on ads. It's the only real way to support a site !

pirlouy, clam down a little. MAD-Max is only asking for a feature and making a case for said feature. It's not personal.

For info, a sites ad downloads do count in it's revenue to a degree. The advertisers keep track of how many times an ad is viewed from each site they pay to post them on.. more views equal more pay for the site over time. They don't get 10 cents a view, so in a way it doesn't directly help them. But if they get say 10 cents for each click (I know that's not accurate) for a 100 views an hour site.. and 20 cents for a 500 views an hour site then when someone clicks an ad they do get my money because of the more views. At least this is the way SOME advertisers do it, and why webmasters WANT you to view them even if you don't click on them. Advertisers are not stupid, they know they can't make you click on the ads. Just like TV ads can't make you buy anything.. but it gives them a chance to give a sales pitch. Thus, is why the more views the more the advertisers will pay per click/buy. This is my understanding of how it works anyway. I'm no expert!

Sorry if I seem angry, it's not voluntary.

Anyhow, if you want to support a site, you display ads and click on them. :-)

np pirlouy..and I agree. If you care about a site enough to download the ads, then you should view/click them from time to time. I don't whitelist many.. what I do is disable adblock for a while and click a few ads. Or perhaps donate? :D

I hope one day Wladimir decide to include Site suport,

I like new AdBLock+, because is faster and more stable (with previous AD+ i get crashes almost everytime I browse yahoo mail), but I hate every kind of ads, and I usually have no time for click in ads (for me is easy not to show ads and not to click in it)

Some pay per ad view example is the pixel counters in the electronic newspaper "elmundo.es" (with ugly flash ads too) (They use pixelcourter and anapixel services for to count how many times an ad is shown)

Ahhh , and sorry for my low level english

I'm not including "site support". As was explained above - you are not really supporting anybody this way. If you want to support somebody - whitelist the page, look at the ads, click them.
