Automatically Block Ads?

Post by mysteryrose74 »

Technically challenged here, so forgive me. Didn't AdBlock Plus automatically block all ads? It seemed one day that I never saw an ad on any web page, and the next, I was seeing ads all over the place. It is enabled. I now have to right click the ads and select block image or block frame every time. And they still come back sometimes. Is there a way to set it so they'll automatically be blocked again?

Sounds like you do not have a "Filter Subscription". Check the link at the bottom of this post and choose a subscription that suits your needs language wise.

For English sites I would recommend:

EasyList
EasyElement
ABP Tracking Filter

http://easylist.adblockplus.org/

Or

Fanboy's Main list
Stat/Tracking Blocking
Adult/Dating Adservers
(I would still use this one even if you choose the first three)

do the Adblock+ and NoScript extensions work together without problems?

I'm using FF for more than 2 years and still can't make Adblock plus work...without Element Hiding Helper i can't block anything.

when i suscribe filter after installing Adblock Plus and then close the adblock window, at the next open of that window subscription disappears. also disappear the blocked links. and sometimes i even cant add any links. (i click Add filter, copy the link, press Enter and nothing happens)

so what's the problem?

(sorry if the post isn't in perfect English :) )

It's not recommended to overuse filterlists though. Notice Hubird emphasized the OR.

Yes. Though Noscript seems to have higher priority in Firefox. If you blocked a flash in ABP while using Noscript's Flash placeholder, the placeholder will always appear even when it's not needed. (which I personally find very annoying so I always turn off placeholding for Flash)

Don't just close the window, you need to either click apply or OK.

Feature was removed, discussions already here:

That windows should show the filter subscriptions you selected.

As Adblock Plus Fan said make sure you hit "Apply" or "OK" after subscribing to the filters.

yes I press OK
even when I go to "Add Subscription" and choose the subscription, press OK, nothing is added in that window.

i reinstalled ABP (by the way, i didn't see welcome window on startup) and as i said, for the first time it adds the subscription. Pressed Apply, also ok. then opened again ABP->>Preferences window and it was empty. i tried to add any filter, right-clicked on a image and pressed "adblock image". the image link was added in that window, but the OK button didnt work, i couldnt close that preferences window unless i deleted that link.
pn the third opening of that preferences window, that subscription appeared...
so it shows sometimes and sometimes no.....

All these 4 videos can hopefully teach you to add filters...

You should also read this whole page please: http://adblockplus.org/en/faq_basics#blocking

Reinstalled the whole FF 3.0, but still the same problem.
it's not a problem of blocking, it's "self deleting".....does anyone have answer for this problem?
why is that i'm clicking OK here and nothing happens?

Image

here must be the filter subscription....also when I click Adblock Image, just this empty window appears
