Adblock Plus will not let me view Myspace videos

Post by cruelkindness »

Even when it's disabled it won't let me view them, they say ERROR. When I uninstall ABP they'll play fine, but upon reinstalling them, they won't work again.

All new versions and updates.

They play fine here. Page example please?

What subscription(s) are you using? EasyList & EasyElement seem to work fine. Adblock Plus blocks nothing on its own unless filters are added to it.

Are you sure it is disabled? Maybe clearing the cache would help after disabling.

I had Filter G and another one, I can't remember what it was, but I uninstalled them both. I uninstalled ABP and reinstalled it without changing anything and when it's installed it won't play them. When I disable them, same thing, they won't play. But if I uninstall ABP they play.

I clear my cache routinely.

I don't understand why it would block / not let me view the myspace vids even when disabled.

It's all the myspace videos.

The filters are still there. Uninstalling ABP does not remove the filters. They are stored elsewhere in your profile in a folder called "adblockplus".

You should be able to just delete the filter/subscriptions in ABP's 'preferences' ... then hit 'APPLY'.

I don't know how the Filterset.G Updater handles that part of it though. All other subscriptions get updated directly through ABP.

Ok deleting the filters worked, thank you. So do I need to subscribe to anything or install any other filters?

I don't know ... do you WANT to install new filters?

These are the recommended ones for ABP:
http://adblockplus.org/en/subscriptions
A simple "click" on the 'subscribe' link is all you need .... nothing else. Select a list(s) that best suits your language, geography, and needs. Don't select multiple 'general' lists.

Most authors are members of this board so support is very good.

I don't understand, I 'delete all filters' and the videos work now, but I am still subscribed to the following: (I thought deleting the filters would also delete the subscriptions)

ABPdk
Easy List
Easy Element
FilterSet.G
Filter Von Dr Evil

Are there any of these you recommend getting rid of? If so, how would I do that?

Thanks for your help.

Just right-click anywhere in each subscription and DELETE. Make sure that you hit "APPLY" after that or they won't stay deleted.

Filterset.G's updater is a whole different animal that I am not familiar with. The others should delete easily.

Anything under a section called "Advertisement filters", "Element hiding rules", or "Exception rules" are YOUR filters and can also be deleted if you don't know why they are there.

You really should not use Filterset.G with ABP (or in combination with any other subscriptions. Filterset.G is also not recommended for ABP by its author:
http://adblockplus.org/?q=filterset.G

What would I recommend? I really don't think that I could do that because of a slight personal interest in certain ones :)

If you're using myspace  you should also ALWAYS use NoScript. Set it to allow "myspace.com". This will help protect you from the scads of nefarious content and other evil users.
