EasyList numbers

Post by rick752 »

Congrads to Wladimir, the authors of the "EasyList +" combo-subscriptions, and Danny Carlton for the ever increasing download stats.

Because the combo subscriptions are starting to show numbers worth calculating, I have now added those downloads to my stand-alone subscription download numbers. For the month of September, those numbers added to the EasyList totaled a whopping 10,411,848 downloads of subscriptions that contained the EasyList. It broke 2 million subscribers! (EasyElement and ABP Tracking Filter are NOT included in that number, except for the "easylist+easyelement" combo subscription)

There is a full breakdown here:

You other filter maintainers must have seen some bigger numbers too. Big month here!

Now celebrating with a fine ale

Congratulations! This nonsense from Danny Carlton/Jack Lewis has done more good for advert blocking than it's done harm, everyone has seen an increase in subscriptions, I don't have my own stats as my site and subscription moved hosts a few weeks ago. What I can say for sure is that my list was being served uncompressed at around 65KB in size and eating around 8GB of bandwidth a month increased from 4GB which from my calculations means I gained 64,528 additional hits in the month following this outburst.

I know that my stats in just 2 weeks of September (after the hosts move) were 74,449 hits which would make 148,898 over the entire month, an increase of 19,842 hits. The list is set to expire every 7 days, which would mean just 4,960 extra subscribers. And that's with me at the bottom of the subscriptions page (not sure why  every new list gets shoved above mine).

So while my numbers are miles away from yours there has been a definite increase, I dread to think how my little host would stand up if I was one of those subscriptions in that drop-down box or further up the page like I was months ago.

This is good news for us, bad news for Danny Carlton/Jack Lewis
