Adblock installed but doesn't do anything

Post by Guest »

Hi,
I recently installed ABP (latest version) on Seamonkey 1.1.4 on Windows Vista Professional.
Clicking on Tools>Adblock Plus ...
does nothing. The usual stop sign does not appear in the toolbar.
Any hints????
Thanks

Windows Vista Professional?? Ultimate?

As for it not working, it could be due to a bad install, I'm not 100% sure is SeaMonkey has been updated for Vista compatibility, try removing the addon and restarting SeaMonkey, but make sure to right click the shortcut and choose Run as Administrator. Even if you have disabled UAC, then try re-installing the addon, I had to do this during the beta (Vista) to get some addons working.

Sorry that's Vista Business. I'm not sure what the differences are ... only that MS changed their terminology.

How do I remove the addon without uninstalling Seamonkey? (N.B. I did uninstall Seamonkey but did not delete all of the folders prior to posting. I then reinstalled ABP with the same results.)

About a $100 bucks ;)

There is a HOWTO on uninstalling extensions for all Mozilla products here. Follow those steps and you should be good to go :)

Thanks......
The uninstalling extensions for seamonkey is to do what I had previously done: uninstall seamonkey and then reinstall it.

I downloaded Firefox and got ABP working. Realizing that ABP actually works on my computer, I turned off UAC in the control panel, rebooted, and installed ABP normally.

It works now (with UAC off ... don't know what it will do with UAC on).......

L8r and thanks for your help....

UAC is a real pain in the ass, the only way you'd be able to get around this and have UAC turned on is to change your NTFS permissions to give your account (your username) and the Users group full access to Program Files, and then the SeaMonkey folder and every folder within it, which is more trouble than it's worth since Vista makes it so damn difficult to change permissions without changing a little *too* much.

If you're a smart guy, which I am guessing you are for using ABP then you can keep UAC off since it's only real purpose is to keep Vista within an inch of operation to spare Microsoft trouble when silly people install spyware/trojans etc and then expect support. Compatibility with it's own software and other software was an after thought that they didn't want to implement.

Glad you got it working though :)
