Simply Hide not Block ads

Post by tecker »

I was wondering if there was the option (similar to Adblock normal) to hide the content and not block it. A lot of the sites I go to are small sites but they use the most annoying ad networks that I hate. (For example black background and light text with a flashing red banner ad. )

Adblock has the option to Hide or Block. I know there is a way with the filters to hide some and block others but could there be a "Hide All" and "Block All" options? Hide is what I would use as I am not worried about bandwidth and am wanting to support my favorite small sites.

What would be the point? If you think that by doing so you help these sites - I have to disappoint you. Even if they get paid by impressions and not by clicks (a rare exception nowadays), in the long term they will simply be paid less per impression because the impressions you create do not result in anything being bought or money spent otherwise. In an extreme case this site might be even kicked out of the advertising network on suspicion of fraud.

There is only one way to help a website - the ABP icon in your toolbar has a dropdown arrow, click it. In the menu that opens, select "Disable on example.com" (where "example.com" is the site you want to support). And then - enjoy the ads, look for something that might be actually interesting for you.

Oh really

Oh I had not realized that. The other thing is that if we made it virtually click on the links they would suspect fraud as well right?

Thanks for the explanation.

Yes, if somebody generates automated clicks the advertisers will detect fraud pretty soon (I am told Google is good at that).
