Adblock blocking Vox functionality

Post by vespa59 »

Greetings. My name is Steve and I'm the QA Manager for Vox (www.vox.com). For the last couple of days, Vox users have been complaining that some of our functionality isn't working. We've traced it down to Adblock preventing the loading of a bunch of our javascript. This is preventing bloggers from composing posts and commenting on other posts, since the forms we use for those require our javascript to be in place. We've been having users white list Vox, but we'd really like to get back to where these two were working nicely together without any user intervention. We thought the problem might have been that we were loading a file called "adengine.js" along with the rest of our stuff, so we renamed that file, but it doesn't seem to have helped.

All this started a couple of days ago around the time we pushed a new release and, as far as I can tell, there was an Adblock update around the same time... so we don't know which of us caused the problem.

If any Adblock developers would like to help us resolve this problem, please email me at steve at sixapart dot com. This is a high priority for us.

Thanks!

Adblock Plus does nothing without filters, so what subscriptions they use?
http://adblockplus.org/en/subscriptions

And read this tip:
http://adblockplus.org/en/tips?tip=effective_filter

ps: If this is really high priority, then you must come back and read this forum.
And give us username and password, (If we need them).

I'm clean

The EasyList & EasyElement subscriptions are not blocking any javascript there that I can see unless it is specific to just a certain operation that I can't see (not being a subscriber).

Do you know what subscription is being used?

I'll find out what filters they are using and post back here. Thanks!

Fox - not sure whose username and password you're asking for.

Just dummy ones.
I did mean, if login is needed, then give us username and password. + filter subscription they use. So we can then help you.
Because i'am not going to register, that form is too long:)

But if you now know what the subscription was, and which filter it was and what addresses it did block.
Then username and password is not needed, i think.

I see... Yeah.. we do need a quicker registration form :)

I think we figured it out. It looks like there's a filter in Filterset.G, which a lot of the people who are complaining are using that's blocking a file of ours called SiteCatalyst.jsc, which loads with all the other javascript.

I think we can just rename the file and load it separate from our ad stuff.

Thanks for your help!
