That's not very nice. I think it's informative and well-written. It's not horrible if you don't agree with it or don't understand it.

For them, I would recommend subscribing to a filter subscription.

You're free to do whatever you want. Just please be polite.

There's nothing wrong with using code from 0.5.x, but the topic has been covered exhaustively in the History/FAQ.

It's trivial to get 0.5.x working under Firefox 2. There are several ways to do this, but the easiest way for you is to use Nightly Tester Tools to make it compatible.

Check out Remove it Permanently (RIP). It's an extension that better matches your style of removing content. Unfortunately, it is incompatible with Firefox 2. But as I've mentioned before, it's trivial to get it working properly.

Your reactions mirrored the reactions of many people when the Adblock Plus name was transferred from mcm_ham to Wladimir. Eventually, the negative feelings subsided and many people have come to appreciate the current version of Adblock Plus. In fact, it will be a featured extension on Mozilla Add-ons for the Firefox 2 release.
What, me worry?

I understand it perfectly. I agree it may be *A* way to get it working, I just don't think it's the best way to do it. And still doesn't explain why the old code can't be used?

yeah, people are going to do that. I'm sure they do. Not me. I do my own. I have other blocks in place too that use a much more efficient method than the filterset rules.
And I even made a much newer, even more efficient method than my original concept. I put it up on the web for a while, no one seemed to care, so I took it off. I still use it myself though.

I've tried. I just think things could be better. Perhaps after I poke at the code a bit (not understanding a thing about how plug-ins are coded) should be fun...

to sum it up - you just did things differently. certainly nothing wrong with that.

Not to be rude, but my perception is that people just gave up. the old set vanished with no support, so there was no place to voice anything, and railing against a brick wall will get no one anywhere. Plus, I suspect many people really enjoy the filterset stuff. I have certainly read more than enough glowing reviews of it.

To each their own as they say.

Well, instead of asking Wladimir to make ABP resembles AB even more, perhaps you will get what you want faster by inspiring shared-mind programmers to strike a mutual agreement with mcm to take over and branch AB.

The div block is replaced by element blocking for good technical reasons. The cost is, you don't get to block them by right click, you have to dance with HTML. What you gain is automatic update of professional adblock lists that do all the dirty work for you.

If neither view source nor dependency on 3rd party list is your cup of tea, maybe you should find another cafe, since according to previous page of discussion I don't think you're not going to get it here anytime soon, if ever.
