What they were seeing, however, was the success of Filterset.G, which I hosted through them here at pierceive.com. The Adblock Filterset.G Updater Add-On for Firefox automatically checks for updates every 4-7 days, resulting in some pretty crazy stats (in October, there were 17.8 million hits, but only 32.93 GB bandwidth used), which would understandably overwhelm shared hosting solutions. I finally convinced them to unblock my domain on November 3rd, but the /filtersetg/ folder remains blocked to keep the server from crashing again.
So it's time to search for some alternative filtersets, which are better optimized for Adblock Plus and have fewer false positives.
Here is a small selection: http://adblockplus.org/en/subscriptions
How regularly do you check for updates in Adblock Plus with the subscriptions Wladamir? I guess it was a mistake for G to ask me to check for updates directly in the updater extension instead of via coralcdn.
The default is once a day (which I should probably change) but the subscription can request anything it wants - either using HTTP Expires header or with a comment in the filter list containing the Expires keyword (like "! Expires after 5 days").
Anybody have an idea what is going on now? Filterset.G has been there a few days ago and the site said that he found a new hosting provider for it. Now it is down again.
