About Moving from AD to AD+

Post by alnuwer »

Im not a techie, just a user who moved up to FF 1.5 and wants to block adds. I installed AdBlock (and Filterset.G Updater per recommendation) simply because it was the first blocker I came across in the FF extension index. Now after reading all of this pro AD+ discussion, I'm inclined to move to it - at least to see for myself which works best for me. My question: Do I need to uninstall Filterset.G as as well as AD before installing AD+? Do I use Filterset.G with AD+?

Thanks for your help.

I would recommend uninstalling Adblock first. Don't forget to save your personal filters first. After restarting, goto about:config and reset any items that contain "adblock". Then you can install Adblock Plus and avoid any possible conflicts with a previous installation.

After another FX restart you can reimport your personal filters or subscribe to one of the suggested filtersets (or any others).

PAason - Thanks for the info. Please excuse my ignorance, but I don't understand how to "go to about:config"

Also, by "reset any items that contain "adblock", do you mean remove them?

And finally, about subscribing to one of the suggested filtersets (or any others). Any recommendations, and where do I find it/them?

Thanks again for your help!

for about:config, just type about:config in url bar... but it's not important.

Uninstall filtersetG, uninstall Adblock 0.5, then install AB+ 0.7 RC, and choose the Rick752's easyList which seems to be a reference. :-)

@alnuwer: You don't need to do this. Simply uninstall Adblock and install Adblock Plus - everything will work. The only problem is that filters from Filterset.G get duplicated - you can go to Adblock Plus preferences and choose Filters / Remove all filters after installing, it will solve this problem.
