ABP blocks everything. Pls help!!!

Post by mbalan »

Hi folks.

I'm a semi-literate newbie

I just recently switched over to Firefox after having problems with IE. Been busy exploring firefox and I installed ABP.

Everything was fine until a couple of days ago when I decided to add a filterlist. Please don't ask me which filterlist. I can't remember.

Now ABP basically blocks everything.

We share this pc at home and my kids are screaming at me!

My OS is Windows XP Professional Service Pack 2.

I've got free editions of Bit Defender, AVG Anti-Spyware 7.5 and Spyware Blaster.

My firewall is ZoneAlarm.

I tried uninstalling and then reinstalling but it didn't work.

Take care.

Bye

Are you using any of those text-removing 'babysitting' programs like Cybersitter or Netnanny? If so, they can corrupt the subscriptions when they are downloaded.

You can tell what subscriptions you are using by going to TOOLS (top firefox menu) ... ADBLOCK PLUS. The name of the subscription(s) will be after lines called:
"Filter subscription: [filter name]"

You can disable the subscription too by clicking the green bullet after the subscription name and saying APPLY or OK.

you can easily see which filters are active on a page. Add the ADP icon to the status bar:

Tools
..Add-Ons
AdBlock Plus
Options
..Options
✓ Show in status bar

Load a page
hover mouse cursor over the Red ADP icon in the status bar

Too see which subscriptions are in use:
CTRL-Shift-A

or right click on red ADP icon
.. Preferences
if put in the public sphere
I choose whether to look at it...
or NOT
