Installing Adblock on Windows Vista Home Premium

Post by Big M »

While trying to install Adblock on my computer, which uses Vista Home Premium, as well as the latest version of Mozilla Firefox, I got this error message:

Windows cannot open this file:

File: adblock_plus-0.73531-fx+tb+sm+fl.xpi

It offers to use a web service to find a program to open the file, or use a program already on your computer. When I choose the web service, it says that Windows does not recognize the file type.

Does anybody have a solution to this?

The .xpi file extension is not associated with Firefox on your computer. Just open the file in Firefox - when you are in Firefox, go into File menu, Open file and select the file you need.

Or open Firefox, click Tools, Addons, and then drag the XPI file into the window that pops up :)
