Adblock plus (alternative) for Opera (filter)

Post by Miknos »

Hi ppl. I've been using Opera since version 6 (2001-2002) with proxomitron for blocking ads. Of course there was some (poor) webdesigner who made websites IE compatible only. In a couple sites a had to use IE (like my bank for example). Today most webdesigners NEED to make a website compatible with IE, Firefox, Opera, Safari etc.
I think Opera lost market share because it took too much time to make it free. Anyway, I started using Firefox when I discovered Adblock plus. Worked more easily than Proxomitron and has a framework remove and a div space remover.

Two days ago I found a way to block ads like adblock plus using Opera. Its replacing a file (filter.ini [17kb]) in Opera's folder.
The instructions are simple.

Go to http://my.opera.com/mp3geek/blog/ and download the URLFILTER.INI (use save target as.. or it will open with notepad). Go to "C:\Program Files\Opera\profile" and replace the urlfilter.ini.

Another suggestion is a EMIL skin http://my.opera.com/community/customize ... o/?id=1544
Usually I hate skins, but found this one better than default because it's clean, uses less space and the used tab is VERY easy to see. It's common in Firefox to close the wrong tab.

Hope this helps.
Bye

thanks for the support :) Maybe one day Opera will get whitelist support, to avoid many false positives but for now the list does a decent job.
