i dont see what the big deal is? adding a simple option to position it wherever the USER wants is the best way to stop this debate. everyone has their opinion and some like the new way, some like the old way. why cant this option be added so we all win?

See http://adblockplus.org/en/faq_project#options

And besides of that, adding options for everything is the best way to create unmaintainable software.

I will add this CSS snippet to the customization FAQ.

Your "dislike" of options is no reason to force every to like the bottom bar, or now, edit an file manually to get what the user wants. stop tinkering and leave the sidebar alone man, it was better that way, the long urls; the tool tip is perfect for these. I had no complaints about your add on, until now.

I don't force anybody to edit a file, you can use Stylish. And being very careful with options is just sane user interface design, nothing to do with "dislike". For most users having the list at the bottom is the best choice, the feedback so far confirms this.

having it at the bottom for me, is a problem, i used to keep adblock open all the time, because it was not a space hog, but now its just bad. it i leave it open i have to scroll twice as much, or make the window smaller, so i cant see a whole lot of elements.

So you are a very non-typical user, great. That's why the customization FAQ exists.

That's three clicks if you have Stylish installed.

Thank you!

Well, I for one couldn't be happier with how this worked out. This was a quibble of a small minority; one week later there's a solution in the FAQ. How much better could it possibly get?

I see the advantages the bottom-bar has for the list maintainers, who perform in-depth analyses of a wide range of sites - in fact, I would assume that my not having use for it is directly related to EasyList just being so darn good. I just want to see at a glance if there's anything unexpected going on on the few sites I visit all the time, so the sidebar is perfect for me.

Heaps of thanks, Malte and Wladimir!

So I have to use another extension to fix this? Please, don't tell me it is will of majority of other users not to have an option for sidebar. Even most of people don't care to have it on bottom, there are people who like to change it in preferencies. Make it default as you like, but don't force others to install other (reliable?) extension ...

a) Stylish is reliable (otherwise I wouldn't recommend using it).
b) I cannot build every single option into Adblock Plus, this will make a bad user interface and an unmanageable development project. If a non-essential option can be delegated to another extension - I do it.

You can also Copy/Paste that CSS code into UserChrome.css -file and it works.
UserStyles Install options -page also says this, (All Mozilla applications -part.)

What I'd like to know is where I should be able to find that list of blockable elements as I have uninstalled and reinstalled the whole crap and there's NO such list anywhere. Having to install all kinds of other add-ons sucks (pardon my french) and is really what will put off people who don't have as much knowledge of computers. So, what rubbish add-on do I need to see the blockable elements list? And why was this done like this anyway? FF updates the ABP add-on and the sidebar just disappears... you should work for microsoft, really!

To get the list of blockable items, click the Adblock Plus icon in the toolbar or press Ctrl+Shift+B. If there isn't an icon in the toolbar, consult this FAQ: http://adblockplus.org/en/faq_customization#toolbar_add

Instead of as a standard sidebar, the list of blockable items shows up at the bottom. You don't need another extension unless you want the list to show up at the side. And even then, Stylish is recommended because it's easier to use for most people compared to manually editing CSS files.
What, me worry?

Sheez, I know this isn't the homepage for the Stylish extension, but the least you can do is show a little respect. The extension authors are working hard you know, without them you'd be sitting with vanilla Firefox with all its potential crippled, would that be better?

Option A: I quote all the posts so far in this thread for you to read.
Option B: Read the thread yourself.

Pick one. From personal experience I can highly recommend option B.

Respect or disrespect aside, unnecessary insults about microsoft are below belt and don't belong here.
If you really hate the solutions given, there's an alternative: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefo ... sions/1865
Uninstall the extension that FF apparently force-fed you, then have version 0.7.2.4 reinstalled and stick to it from now on.
